Desert Rally Walkthrough
Desert Rally is one of the most unique and addictive racing games on the internet simply because it's so extremely simple yet still fairly challenging. You need to balance a decent racing speed with careful control of your car - something that's definitely not easy to do. There is no distance you need to reach. There are no obstacles you need to try to navigate over. There are no other cars to contend with. This is a racing game in which your only opponent is you and the distance you reached in the previous race. For high score enthusiasts who love really challenging themselves to improve, this game is the ideal. No distractions - just the basic game and a steadily changing background to keep the look of the game interesting.
Your goal in Desert Rally is pretty simple - drive along a straight stretch of open desert and make it as far as you can without destroying your car. The race only ends when your car is destroyed. There are five cars to choose from for your race; a 1986 Porsche 959, a 1994 Toyota Celica GT-4 WRC, a 1999 Ford Focus WRC, a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO V1 and a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Try out all the different cars. See how they handle, see how fast they can go and see how much fun you can have driving them. At the completion of each race, you will be given the chance to either restart the race or choose a new car. Give them all a go.
The biggest advantage Desert Rally offers over most of the other racing games online is its simplicity. You don't have to spend ages getting used to the controls, the rules and understanding what you need to do to progress. While making it any distance without wrecking your car will take decent technique, when compared with other racing games, this one is pretty straightforward. It's a quick and easy game you can kill a little time with if you're looking for a little something to do online but don't want to get drawn into a big, drawn out game. At the same time, the challenge to make it further each time makes the game surprisingly addictive. This game is proof that an online game doesn't have all the bells and whistles to be entertaining.
To do well in Desert Rally, you really need to let go of the idea that you need to drive as fast as your car will go. That is a surefire way to crash your car. This one is about balancing speed and control. Too much speed and you'll lose control. At the start of your race, you can really push your car and try to reach that top speed, but once you start bouncing over the terrain, it's time to back off on that accelerator, hit the break and try a slower, more measured approach. The goal isn't to reach a specific point on the track as fast as you can. The goal is to keep your car intact and make it as far as you can. That won't be very far if you move too quickly over the bumps and dips in the track.
Overall, Desert Rally isn't really a game for those looking for an intense, action packed racing game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a racing game for someone that wants something a little different than all of the other racing games out there and wants something a little more relaxed. Good, cautious technique is the key to doing well this game and as you play, you'll find you'll make it a little further each time. This is a great game - simple, straight forward and lots of fun if you're looking for something a little more laid back.
