Coaster Racer 2 Walkthrough
Coaster Racer 2 is one of the few racing game sequels online that actually gets it right. It stays very true to the original game while only really changing the things about the game that needed improving. This is definitely a good thing as the first game was one of the best racing games online and this one is even better than its predecessor. The basic premise of the game is more or less the same as the first. You want to come in either first, second or third to earn a nice chunk of prize money and to unlock additional tracks. You also want to collect all of the bonuses you can and freestyle when you can to build up your points so you can get a high score. It's not an easy game but it is a lot of fun and any racing game fan regardless of skill or experience is going to be able to enjoy playing it.
In Coaster Racer 2, as in the first game and most of the other racing games online, upgrades are of vital importance if you want to do well. In order to get those upgrades, you need to earn money. You can only earn money by racing. How much money you earn for each race depends on what position you finish in. In this one, upgrades are probably where the most improvement is shown. They're much less expensive and the upgrade store itself it laid out in a less complicated way. You have the same basic upgrade categories (top speed, acceleration, brakes, tires and nitro) but the options are laid out more clearly. In addition, you're also taken directly to the upgrade screen following a race or a challenge instead of actually having to click to go to the upgrade store. That makes it a little easier to remember that you need to go for those upgrades before you race.
Another great addition to Coaster Racer 2 is the fact that you can choose to race either a car or a bike. This is a major improvement over the first game and is also a feature that's missing from many of the other racing games online. Each vehicle can be upgraded in the upgrade store and then used in different challenges. When you get to the 'select a race' screen, you'll see three columns; two columns of challenges on the right and left and races down the center. You can choose either the car or the bike for the races but the challenges are for specific vehicles; car challenges on the left and bike challenges on the right. This definitely makes the game appealing to a wider audience. Fans of bike racing games, fans of car racing games and just racing game fans in general will be able to find something they're interested in with this one.
One of the things that's carried over to Coaster Racer 2 from the first game is the ability to choose from three different difficulty settings. This was one of my favorite features of the first game and I'm glad to see it's been preserved. The difficulty settings allow any player of any skill or experience level to enjoy the game. The graphics in this one are also just as well done in this game as they were in the first. In fact, the graphics offered for many of the tracks are far superior to the graphics in the first. The backgrounds can be a bit distracting at times but that's part of what makes the game difficult. You really need to pay attention to the track and try to ignore everything that's going on to the sides and above the tracks. It isn't easy to do and therefore it really adds to the game.
Using your nitro boost in Coaster Racer 2 is more or less the same as it was in the first game. It takes a while to recharge so it's best to save it for when you really need it instead of just using it as soon as it becomes available. Nitro gives you a huge boost in speed which is helpful in both the challenges and the races but if it's not charged and ready to go when you need it, it will do you little good. It's a good idea to save your nitro boosts for straighter stretches in the tracks. That boost of speed is great but it can also make it incredibly difficult to keep your car or bike under control.
Overall, the main thing to remember when playing Coaster Racer 2 is how important those upgrades are. Without upgrades you have little chance of reaching the end of the game. It's also extremely important to keep your eyes on the track. If you drive off the side of the track, you'll slow yourself down significantly. The same goes for crashing into things on the side of the track. In a lot of ways, this racing game is easier than the first in the series. Even though the racing is just as hard, if not harder, purchasing upgrades isn't as expensive making it far easier to earn the money you need for them. You also don't have to worry about paying to repair damage to your car or your bike so the money you earn for your win remains intact. If you're looking for an entertaining and addictive racing game that will put your skills to the test but still offers above average graphics, this is a game you absolutely must play.
